Clinical Supervision
NZSN recommends Clinical Supervision for all school nurses.
Clinical Supervision provides numerous benefits for school nurses who often work in isolated environments. It supports good practice and ensures your practice meets legislative, clinical, and ethical requirements. It provides validation of your experience with reflection and encouragement on your development as a clinician. It gives schools confidence in your practice and a practical means for them to support you as a clinician.
These are our contracted Supervisors with extensive backgrounds in school nursing, and clinical supervision qualifications who can provide Individual Clinical Supervision for School Nurses and School GP's.
Alison Macdonald
Nursing can be extremely challenging, especially in these times. As a school nurse you are always giving to others, but do you make time to look after yourself?
Clinical supervision gives nurses ‘time out’ to focus, explore, reflect on any work-related issue.
Alison MacDonald has worked as a Registered Nurse for 20+ years, with a passion for mental health and school-based nursing. When off duty Alison loves to plan trips in her campervan and binge watch Netflix shows.
Having recently completed clinical supervision training Alison is ready to offer sessions that aim to keep you sane in the workplace and hopefully come away with some ideas or solutions, a different perspective or just a sense of being heard.
Please get in touch, details given below and start the process.

Christine Cammell
As a new School Nurse myself many years ago, I was so fortunate to have an amazing Clinical Supervisor who was instrumental in my growth as a School Nurse and a Youth Health Clinician. I know the vast difference good supervision can make, and am delighted to support many amazing School Nurses now as a Clinical Supervisor myself.
Christine has been in School Nursing for over 15 years, and has worked in numerous schools and kura in NZ and the UK. There's little she hasn't seen or encountered, and she remains passionate about supporting School Nurses who often work in Isolation. Like Karen, Christine has been part of the New Zealand School Nurses website since its conception and her vision is to see a School Nurse in every School in New Zealand so that all students have equitable access to quality youth health services.
Christine is currently at max capacity with 8 clients.
Bronwyn Campbell
I grew up in Gisborne and have lived in Te Kuiti for most of the past 24 years. I have been a school GP since 2003 and the GP Lead for the Pinnacle School Based Health Services in the Waikato since 2014. I completed the postgrad training in professional supervision at Wintec in 2019 and have been providing professional supervision for doctors via videoconference since then. The supervision needs of doctors often stem from the impact of their work on their well-being, their interactions with their colleagues and with challenging patients. Sometimes they need to talk about complaints. I suspect that nurses have similar concerns that need unpacking from time to time.
My other interests are in workforce development (especially process skills in communication – HOW we do what we do) and medically unexplained symptoms which are sometimes linked to our life experiences and the impact that our emotions have on our bodies. I have written more about professional supervision on my website.

Linda Bougen
I am registered nurse of 43 years, (wow!!) with a background in mental health and school-based
nursing. I have been supervising for the last 7 years. I have a passion for supporting nurses in their
wellbeing and best practices. I believe professional/clinical supervision can be one of the most
beneficial modalities to support nurses in their day-to-day challenges and ongoing career
development. Acknowledging achievements and successes is paramount to great supervision too.
Speaking of achievements, I am proud to tell you that my latest achievement, with a group of peer
supervisors, has been to procure acknowledgement from the Nursing Council of NZ, that
professional supervision can now be counted as professional development hours. Great news.
Coming to supervision will enhance your reflective skills of how you practice and how you manage
the rest of your commitments while pursuing a great career.
I am based in Christchurch and am happy to travel to you if local, or facilitate Zoom supervision too.
For more information about me and what supervision is about, please do visit my website, email me or give me
a call (ph 0274168921). I look forward to hearing from you.
