NZSN has been actively working on Pay Equity for School Nurses over the past 18 months. Our aim is to ensure that school nurses are recognised and remunerated fairly for the critical work they do in supporting the health and wellbeing of Tamariki across Aotearoa.
We are indebted to the work of the PEWG (Pay Equity Working Group), formed of NZSN members from up and down NZ who have championed improved pay for School Nurses.
Some of the work we’ve achieved so far includes:
-
Developing the first-ever draft salary agreement for school nurses in New Zealand, providing a benchmark for fair pay.
-
Supporting several nurses to receive pay rises, even while the agreement is still in draft form.
-
Engaging with SPANZ, (the NZ Secondary School Principals’ Association) and NZNO (the New Zealand Nurses Organisation).
-
Coordinating a national pay equity working group (PEWG) made up of school nurses from across the country, funded by both the Ministry of Education and Te Whatu Ora, to improve pay conditions.
This work is ongoing. Our focus remains on advocating for fair pay, sharing resources, and building a collective voice for school nurses so that their vital contribution is properly recognised.
