Who funds Nurses in Schools in NZ?

The employment of individual nurses will depend on the funding model that will finance the employment of the nurse.

Roughly 50% of School Nurses in NZ are funded through a Health Entity. This could be Te Whatu Ora (TWO), A district health board (DHB), a primary care organisation (PCO), or a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The remaining 50% of the School nursing workforce are employed directly by schools, and the parameters of the employment of school nurses are held by the principal and the board of trustees (BOT).
