School Nursing in New Zealand

School Nurses provide onsite, accessible, free healthcare services to students in schools. School Nursing has existed in New Zealand for more than 100 years, but more recently School Nurses are being recognised as experts in Youth Health, providing a valuable contribution in improving the health and wellbeing of students in schools.

From emergency care, to physical, mental, emotional and social health assessment and treatment, the scope of a School Nurses' practice is wide and all-encompassing. School Nurses work with students, their families, school staff and secondary health services to provide excellent, youth focused Nursing care to best support students in schools.
